Business verification: free, invisible, and the one that unlocks things
You start it in your business settings under Security Center, then Start verification. You enter your legal business name, registered address, phone number and website. Then you upload documents that prove all four.
Meta accepts documents that show your registered legal name and address. A business license, articles of incorporation, or a business tax registration are the usual ones. If your main document does not show a phone number, a recent utility or telecom bill in the business name covers that field. Documents should be less than a year old, in colour, uncropped, and showing the complete page.
Review takes anywhere from about ten minutes to fourteen working days. Two to three business days is typical. It costs nothing at any stage.
- WhatsApp Business Platform scale. An unverified portfolio is capped at delivering messages to 250 unique WhatsApp user phone numbers, outside of a customer service window, in a moving 24-hour period. Once verified, you progress through tiers of 2,000, then 10,000, then 100,000, then unlimited, based on send volume and quality rating.
- WhatsApp display name approval, which is a prerequisite for the Official Business Account checkmark on an API number.
- Advanced-level permissions if you have built an app on the Meta developer platform, and the ability for other businesses to grant your app access to their data.
- Higher daily ad spend limits, and access to some restricted advertising categories.
Messaging limits are shared, not stacked
Meta Verified: paid, visible, and billed per asset
Meta Verified runs four tiers. Standard is $14.99 a month when you subscribe inside the app and $11.99 when you subscribe from the web. Plus is $49.99. Premium is $149.99. Max is $499.99. Prices vary by country.
Every tier includes the badge, impersonation monitoring and enhanced support. Higher tiers add things like featured profile placement, links in Reels, and account support with a real person. Whether those extras are worth four figures a year is a separate question from whether the badge is.
Before you can subscribe you need Advanced Protection turned on for the portfolio, two-factor authentication enabled, a complete profile with a picture and a category, and enough account tenure. Meta looks for full control of the business portfolio for at least 30 days and a Page that is roughly three months old. You also must not have made too many recent changes to your business information.
The check itself can involve documents, a government ID, bank verification, or an activity-based assessment. On the business side Meta says it typically takes up to three business days. On the creator side the identity check is quoted at up to 48 hours.

Which one you actually need
Work backwards from the outcome you want. The two processes almost never substitute for each other.
- You want the WhatsApp Business API at scale, an approved display name, or the Official Business Account checkmark: you need free business verification. Meta Verified will not do this for you.
- You built an app and need advanced permissions from the developer platform: free business verification.
- Your ad account keeps hitting a spend ceiling, or support told you to verify: free business verification.
- You want a blue badge so customers can tell your Instagram or Page from the accounts impersonating you: Meta Verified.
- You want a support channel with a human in it: Meta Verified, and realistically the higher tiers.
- You want both: do the free business verification first. It costs nothing and it locks nothing.
There is a third thing
Why applying for the wrong one is expensive
The cost of a bad application is not the fee. It is the cooldown.
If business verification is rejected, you wait 30 days before you can reapply. If you have already been rejected twice, the better move is to appeal through the rejection notice rather than submit a third time. If a Meta Verified application is unsuccessful, the same 30-day wait applies. A denied WhatsApp Official Business Account application can be resubmitted after 30 days.
Meta also tracks how fast you resubmit. Same-day resubmissions get flagged and reviewed more slowly. Fix the field that failed, save it, and give it at least a day before you go again.
So a five-minute application filled in carelessly costs a month, even though you broke nothing. That is the whole argument for slowing down before you click submit.
The lock nobody reads
The specific failure modes
We ran this whole stack on our own business first. Bench Clearers is a hockey apparel store we operate, and we took it through Meta Verified on a 52,000-follower Instagram account alongside a Verified Mark Certificate and BIMI in Gmail. We know where these applications break because we broke them.
These are the points where a submission fails most often.
- Address mismatch. The address on your incorporation document and the address in your Meta business info must match. Not roughly. The same address, written the same way.
- Website footer. Reviewers look for your legal entity name on the site itself. If the footer shows your trading name and the document shows the LLC name, that is a mismatch.
- Email domain. An email address on the same domain as your website carries more weight than a free mailbox.
- Stale documents. Anything older than a year is a risk.
- Bad scans. Greyscale, cropped, or a photo with a corner missing. Meta wants the complete document in colour.
- Advanced Protection not enabled before you pay. Turn it on first, not after the charge lands.
- Recent name changes. Meta counts changes to your business portfolio. Too many recent ones will disqualify you before a human sees the file.
- Losing the asset. The terms are explicit that if the verified asset is deleted, or you lose admin control of it, the badge goes with it.
When we would tell you not to buy it
If your goal is WhatsApp API volume, do not buy Meta Verified. You will pay every month and still be capped at 250 unique recipients a day, because that gate is opened by the free process, not the paid one. This is the single most common and most expensive mix-up.
If you run a small Instagram account with no impersonation problem and no business behind it, a badge at $14.99 a month per asset is unlikely to earn that back. The badge does not change your reach on its own.
If you are mid-rebrand, wait. Change the name, let it settle, then verify. Subscribing first freezes the name for the length of the subscription.
If your registered paperwork is out of date, fix the paperwork before you touch either application. No amount of resubmitting fixes a document that genuinely does not match.
And to be plain about it: Meta decides. Nobody can guarantee you a badge or a verified portfolio. Anyone who promises one is either not telling you the truth or is not working through official channels.
Working with us
We work only through official Meta channels. We never ask for your password, your government ID document, or your card number. We map the goal to the right process first, get the free business verification done and clean before anyone pays for a badge, and check the document set against the business info line by line so the first submission is the one that counts. If we look at your situation and do not think it can pass, we will tell you that and decline the work rather than take the fee and burn your 30 days.
Common questions
Does paying for Meta Verified complete my business verification?
No. They are separate checks decided by separate systems. Meta Verified runs its own review of your business, but it does not mark your business portfolio as verified in Security Center, and it does not lift the WhatsApp messaging cap or unlock advanced developer permissions. If you need those, complete the free business verification as well.
How much does business verification cost?
Nothing. It is free at every stage. If someone is charging you for the Meta submission itself rather than for the work of preparing it correctly, ask what exactly you are paying for.
How long do I have to wait if my application is rejected?
Thirty days in most cases. That applies to a rejected business verification, an unsuccessful Meta Verified application, and a denied WhatsApp Official Business Account application. If business verification has already been rejected twice, appealing through the rejection notice is usually a better route than a third submission.
Can I change my business name after getting Meta Verified?
Not during the subscription. Meta's terms state that once verification is under way you cannot change your business contact information or the name, handle, bio or category of the verified asset for the duration of the subscription. Do any rebranding before you subscribe, not after.
Why is my WhatsApp account still limited to 250 unique recipients a day after I subscribed to Meta Verified?
Because the 250 cap is lifted by business verification, not by the subscription. Messaging limits are also set at the business portfolio level and shared across every phone number in that portfolio, so adding numbers does not increase your total capacity.

Most rejections come down to one thing: the name on your business documents does not match the name on your account. We find that before you submit, not after.
